News and Updates

Autumn leaves will be here in a few weeks!

Autumn will be here before you know it.  It is a lovely season in our neighborhood and throughout the Blue Mountains. This photo is a maple tree in our back garden in 2021.

If you are interested in staying, let us know your dates as we are not opening very far in advance at this time.  Why?  We have to catch up on activities and travel, too.  We are also happy to hold dates for returning guests if your plans are not firm.  Drop us an email or text message or write us a note via the contact form.

Updates on the health situation and requirements to stay at the Milepost Annex

Crimson bottlebrush in the back garden

The health pandemic over the past two years is a moving feast in terms of rules, lockdowns, coronovirus variants and travel.  It is time to post another update about how that impacts staying at the Milepost Annex.

We are open on a limited basis for guests who are fully vaccinated and have not been exposed to COVID-19 recently. Please contact us to discuss your situation. We are also happy to answer any questions you have for us. Click on the contact form on the web site to send us a note and include your phone number if you want us to call you.

To explain why, we are both senior citizens and fully vaccinated.  The guest suite is part of our home so we are taking extra precautions at this stage.  Yes, things in Australia are starting to open up and we are all grateful for this. We look forward to better days head.

Stay tuned and we’ll post another update as things change.  Thank you.

Spring is here and so are we!

It has been a tough few months in Greater Sydney (which includes an extended area it seems from the Central Coast to Wollongong and west to Mt Victoria in the Blue Mountains.  We are in the Upper Blue Mountains and have been included in that designation.

The reopening plans are underway for New South Wales and we look forward to welcoming you back or for the first time to the Milepost Annex. Please get in touch if you have questions or want to ask about dates.  We have kept the booking calendar closed for a little while longer.

In the meantime, here is a beautiful sunset from our back garden in late winter:

Greater Sydney lockdown – a few weeks and counting

It has been a few weeks since I have posted mainly due to the Greater Sydney lockdown. Our place is in the upper Blue Mountains,100 km from where this outbreak started in the eastern suburbs. However the whole of our local government area (LGA) is considered part of the Greater Sydney area.
Current status as of 15 August 2021 is that the numbers of cases is going up, not down. In fact the entire state is now in lockdown so only essential travel is allowed. When things improve, we will update you.
In the meantime, I will post videos and photos from time to time so we can reflect on happier days. Here is one from a month ago when we had a few snow flurries along with the camellias blooming. 🥶 🌸 😊
And this is why we have a gas fireplace in the guest suite and two sources of heat for our main house. This morning it was 0 Celsius/32 Fahrenheit with only a couple more weeks of winter to go. 😊

The newest member of our family is Bronnie

Bronnie the border collie
Bronnie the border collie now lives at our place

Bronnie has been with us for several months now and has settled in.  He loves other dogs and humans and always wants to say hello.  We are careful to make sure that others actually want to meet him, too!

We have the property set up so that guests have their own area complete with gates to separate from the section where there might be guest dogs or now, our own dog again.

We also look after dogs of our friends and neighbors from time to time.  This makes Bronnie very, very happy.

What is new? A lovely new full sized frost free fridge!

It might seem mundane but when the new fridge arrives, you realize how great it is.

Maybe she needs a name? In any case, pick up as much ice cream as you can carry and she will keep it at a perfect temperature.

Many thanks to guests who let us know we needed an upgrade that would keep the veggies crisp and the ice cream frozen. Feedback is an awesome gift.
